School Officials Urge Beaver Fans to Make Travel Plans for Las Vegas
Nov. 26, 2003
Corvallis, Ore. -
The Pacific-10 Conference announced today that officials from the league's bowl agreements have decided to wait until early next week before selecting their conference participants. However, Beaver athletic department officials are urging fans interested in going to OSU's bowl game to plan on making their travel itinerary for the Las Vegas Bowl, since it is almost assured Oregon State will be participating.
Bowl representatives are waiting for an official announcement as to whether Washington State is a viable candidate for the Rose Bowl. The next Bowl Championship Series conference call is scheduled for Tuesday, but league officials stated that there might be enough information available Monday for bowl pairings to be set.
Oregon State Director of Athletics Bob De Carolis said it is almost assured the Beavers will participate in the 12th Annual Las Vegas Bowl, to be played Dec. 24 at Sam Boyd Stadium. The University of New Mexico of the Mountain West Conference has already accepted an invitation to the game.
The Beavers' other postseason option is the Insight Bowl played at Bank One Ballpark in Phoenix on Dec. 26. Beaver officials believe this option is not likely since the program played in the Insight last year and has competed in postseason games in the Phoenix area two of the last three seasons.
