Huskies Top Gonzaga, 70-56, In Seattle Times Classic

SEATTLE (AP) - Andrea Lalum scored 15 of her 25 points in the first half Friday night, leading Washington to a 70-56 win over the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the Seattle Times Classic.

Lalum hit 8 of 14 from the field and made 8 of 10 free throw attempts. Giuliana Mendiola had 22 points, six rebounds and six assists.

The Bulldogs took a 47-41 lead on Rachel Kane's 3-pointer two minutes into the second half, but Washington (3-0) closed the gap and then took control by outscoring Gonzaga 20-6 over the final 10:25.

Gonzaga (1-3) was led by Ashley Anderson, who had 15 points. Kane had 12, and Anne Bailey added 11.

Gonzaga ran into foul trouble early. Ashley Burke, the Bulldogs' leading scorer at 17 points per game, got her third foul at 10:02 of the first half with Washington leading 22-13. With Burke on the bench, Anderson scored 11 points in the final 7:40 of the half. Her 13-footer with 2.5 seconds left in the half tied the game at 38.

Burke finished with four points.

Washington will play Oklahoma State in Saturday's championship game at 7 p.m. In the consolation game, Gonzaga plays Yale at 5 p.m. On Friday's first game, Oklahoma State beat Yale 74-51.
