No. 8 Cal Volleyball Defeats Texas Christian, 3-0, at Baden Tournament

LONG BEACH, CA - The No. 8 ranked Cal volleyball team (22-6) defeated Texas Christian (20-14), 3-0 (30-20, 30-18, 30-24) Friday evening at the Long Beach State Baden Thanksgiving Tournament. The Bears' win over TCU gave Cal its 22nd victory of the season, the second-most single season wins in school history (behind the Bears' 28-12 record in 1982, and tying Cal's 22-20 record in 1983).
Cal was paced by junior All-American Mia Jerkov's 16 kills and four service aces. Junior outside hitter Gabrielle Abernathy also played well, playing in two games and recording seven kills with no errors in nine attempts for a .778 hitting percentage. Freshman setter Samantha Carter finished with 39 assists and a team-high 11 digs, while sophomore middle hitter Alicia Powers added eight kills, a .375 hitting percentage (eight kills, two errors, 16 attempts) and a team-high five total blocks.
As a team, the Bears hit .324 for the match.
'It was not really are sharpest performance tonight, but it was good enough to get the win,' said Cal coach Rich Feller. 'Tomorrow night we are going to need to put out a better effort.'
The Bears will next face host Long Beach State, Saturday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. Cal will then find out details of NCAA postseason play on Sunday, Nov. 30 at 5 p.m. PST on ESPN News.
