USC Women's Volleyball Beats Houston To Finish Regular Season Undefeated

Emily Adams had 12 kills to help the No. 1-ranked USC women's volleyball team conclude an undefeated regular season with a 30-22, 30-14, 30-21 victory over Houston in a non-conference match Saturday (Nov. 29) at USC's Lyon Center.

USC improved to 29-0, while Houston fell to 12-20. The defending NCAA champion Women of Troy, who have won their last 40 consecutive matches dating back to last season, figure to be the nation's top seed when the NCAA Tournament parings are released Sunday.

Adams hit .786 in the match. April Ross, the 2003 Pac-10 Player of the Year, added 9 kills and 3 aces for USC, while teammate Bibiana Candelas had 8 kills and 6 blocks.

For Houston, Cinthia Piva and Becca Sartori each had 10 kills.

USC outhit the Cougars, .438 to .087, and had more blocks (12.0 to 4.0) and digs (39 to 26).

USC got off to a slow start in the first game, trailing 19-17 before scoring 9 of the next 10 points to gain control. In the second game, USC went on a 12-1 spree to open up a 19-7 lead. USC was led throughout the third game as many Trojan reserves saw action.
