COLORADO OPENS NCAA TOURNAMENT WITH MICHIGAN

BOULDER - The University of Colorado has earned an at-large berth into the 2003 NCAA Division I Volleyball Tournament and will open against the University of Michigan on Friday, Dec. 5, in Berkley, Calif.

           
The Colorado-Michigan winner will play either St. Mary's (
Calif.) College or the University of California in the second round on Saturday, Dec. 6, at time yet to be determined. The host Bears are the 10th seed in the 64-team tournament and ranked No. 8 in the most recent AVCA/USA Today Top 25 poll.

           
The Buffaloes will make their 13th NCAA appearance in 14 seasons, missing just the 2002 season during that sapn.
Colorado is 8-12 all-time in the NCAA Tournament, reaching the Sweet 16 on three occasions (1993, 1994 & 1997).

           
Colorado finished the 2003 regular season at 21-9 and tied for third place in the Big 12 Conference with the University of Kansas and Texas A&M University at 13-7. The Buffs enter the NCAA's having won eight of its last 10 matches. Michigan is 20-11 overall and finished fifth in the Big Ten at 12-8.
