Mike Williams Named Biletnikoff Award Finalist
Dec. 1, 2003
Sohomore Mike Williams has been named one of three finalists for the Biletnikoff Award, presented to the nation's top wide receiver.
Williams, already selected as an All-American first teamer this year and often mentioned as a Heisman Trophy contender, has 80 catches for 1,167 yards (14.6 average) with a USC season recordy-tying 14 TDs in 2003. He currently is sixth nationally in receptions (7.3) and receiving yards (106.1).
He has 28 touchdown catches in his 24-game career, having eclipsed the USC career TD reception record 3 games before the end of his sophomore season (the Pac-10 career TD reception mark is 32 by Stanford's Ken Margerum in 1977-80). He is averaging a touchdown every 6.0 times he touches the ball. He already is tied for sixth on USC's career receptions list (161) and has 12 100-yard receiving games in his young career (7 times in 2003). He is just the second Trojan (joining Keyshawn Johnson) to have a pair of 1,000-yard receiving seasons.
Joining him as 2003 Biletnikoff Award finalists are Oklahoma's Mark Clayton and Pitt's Larry Fitzgerald.
The winner will be announced on Dec. 11.
