Stanford Defeats Hawaii, 5-2

Honolulu, HI - The Stanford University men's tennis team capped its fall competition with a 5-2 victory over Hawaii on November 28. The Cardinal captured the doubles point and collected four singles wins to secure the win. The Cardinal begins its spring schedule when it travels to Thousand Oaks, CA to participate in the Sherwood Cup on January 16-19.
All three Stanford doubles teams collected wins versus Hawai'i. Senior Carter Morris and junior Sam Warburg defeated (8-2) Ryan Sceats and Travis Smith at No. 1 doubles, while sophomores James Pade and Jon Wong defeated Derrick Lajola and Jarrod Diepraam, 8-4, at No. 2 doubles. The freshman tandem of Chris Rasmussen and Eric McKean registered an 8-4 win over Hawaii's Bryon Weinberg and Burke Marold at the No. 3 doubles spot.
In singles competition, Pade collected a win at the No. 2 spot, cruising past Lajola, 6-3, 6-0. Freshman James Wan recorded a 6-0, 6-4 win over Weinberg at the No. 3 singles spot, while senior Joe Kao defeated Smith at No. 5 singles (6-1, 7-5) and McKean eased past Marold, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
In other singles action, junior Phil Sheng was forced to retire at No. 1 singles (6-4, 1-0 retired), while Diepraam defeated Rasmussen 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (8).
