UCLA EARNS TRIP TO NCAA COLLEGE CUP
Bruins Meet Tarheels in Friday's Semifinals
The Pac-10 Champion UCLA Bruins (20-1-3 overall, 8-0-1 Pac-10) have earned their second-ever trip to the NCAA College Cup in the 11-year history of the program and first since 2000... Coming off a convincing 4-0 victory over fifth-seeded Penn State on Nov. 28, the No. 4-seed Bruins take on the top-seeded North Carolina Tarheels Friday at SAS Soccer Park in Cary, N.C.
UCLA is making the program's second College Cup appearance and second under Coach Jillian Ellis, the 2003 Pac-10 Coach of the Year... Ellis' 2000 UCLA squad, the last Pac-10 team to reach the College Cup, recorded a 1-0 victory over Portland in the semifinals before falling to North Carolina, 2-1, in the NCAA title match... This season, the Tarheels handed the Bruins their only loss, back on Sept. 19... North Carolina downed UCLA 5-2 at the Duke/adidas Classic... Since then, the Bruins have reeled off 16 wins in their last 17 matches, the exception a scoreless tie at Stanford on Oct. 17.
A total of five Pac-10 teams received invitations to the 2003 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship, with the Bruins the lone survivors after the first two rounds of play... Six teams comprised the NCAA Tournament field last year... Five Pac-10 teams competed in the tournament in 2001, and a league-record seven teams were among the field of 64 in 2000... Conference teams have posted a 53-43-16 record (.545) against Division I non-conference opponents this season, including postseason competition.

UCLA BRUINS: UCLA has advanced to the NCAA College Cup for the first time since 2000 and the second time in program history... The No. 4-seed Bruins face top-seeded North Carolina Friday at 2:30 p.m. EST... The Tarheels, the same team to eliminate UCLA in its last College Cup appearance, handed the Bruins their only loss of the 2003 season, on Sept. 19 in the Duke/adidas Classic (5-2)... At the 2000 College Cup, UCLA defeated Portland 1-0 in the semifinals before falling to the Tarheels 2-1 in the NCAA title game... The Bruins are coming off a convincing 4-0 win over No. 5 seed Penn State in the NCAA quarterfinals... UCLA's road to the College Cup has also included wins over Kansas (1-0) and Pepperdine (2-0)... In postseason play this year, UCLA has yet to surrender a goal, posting four consecutive shutouts heading into Friday's semifinal match... With its 4-0 win over Penn State on Nov. 28, UCLA tied the school single-season mark for shutouts (15) and victories (20)... The 2001 team finished with a 20-3-0 overall record... SO F Iris Mora tallied a goal and an assist against the Nittany Lions... Mora notched her Conference-leading sixth game-winning goal of the season in UCLA's 2-0 win over Pepperdine Nov. 16... Mora, the Pac-10's leading scorer this season, has amassed 40 points on 13 goals and 4 assists.
