Men's Basketball Adds Ryan O'Hara to Roster

Dec. 4, 2003

TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's basketball coach Lute Olson announced Thursday that Ryan O'Hara has been added to the 2003-04 roster.

O'Hara, a 6-foot-6, 198-pound, freshman forward from Pasadena, Calif., was added to the roster in the wake of Isaiah Fox's knee surgery Tuesday. He is also a quarterback on the Wildcat football team.

'We are happy to have him join our team,' said Olson. 'We've got to get him into basketball shape, but he will be a nice addition to our scout team. Ryan was a solid player in high school.

O'Hara was a three-year starter and four-year letterwinner on the hardwood in high school, playing his first three seasons at Monrovia High School in Palos Verdes, Calif., where he averaged 16 points and nine rebounds per game as a junior. He was rated as a top-15 wing player by heading into his senior season. O'Hara helped Monrovia to berths in the 2000 and 2001 Class 3A state semifinals, where the Wildcats posted identical 27-3 records in those seasons.

As a senior, O'Hara played at Muir High School in Pasadena, Calif., and graduated in 2002. He played only sparingly in 2001-02 after injuring his left knee during the football season.

As a member of Arizona's football team, O'Hara saw action in five games during the 2003 season and made one start (Sept. 20 at Purdue). He completed 33-of-78 passes for 341 yards and two touchdowns with four interceptions. His best outing came Sept. 13 vs. Oregon in which he completed 11-of-27 passes for 113 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions.

Seventh-ranked Arizona (1-1, 0-0 Pac-10) will next be in action on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Saint Louis. Tip-off is scheduled for Noon CST and can be seen nationally on ESPN2.
