Huskies Complete Second Day Of U.S. Open Competition

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Representatives from the Washington Swimming teams competed in the second day of U.S. Open Competition on Friday. The Huskies were represented well by the Husky men and women in Federal Way, as both teams boasted top-ten finishers.

Senior Derek Rose swam the 100-meter backstroke in 57.05 to place ninth and qualify for the Olympic Time Trials, while senior Justin Adrian qualified for the Olympic Time Trials with a sixth place finish in the 100 butterfly (55.03). The Husky men placed third in the 400 Medley Relay as Rose, Phil Davis, Adrian, and Jim Wolfe combined for a time of 3:48.94.

The Husky women were led by the 400 medley relay team as junior Desiree Johnson, sophomore Sharon Olson, junior Anissa Hilyard, and sophomore Liya Liu combined to place third with a time of 4:24.44. Johnson also placed 16th in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:05.66.

The Huskies continue action in the U.S. Open on Saturday in Federal Way.
