Three Cougars Ranked Nationally

PULLMAN, Wash. - Three Washington State tennis players have received Northwest Regional Rankings which were posted Dec. 4. There are eight regions across the country and players were ranked on their records in fall play.

Senior Lorena Arias and junior Chris Martinez combine to create the No. 9 doubles team. The tandem recorded 10 wins this fall. They reached the final in the Cougar Classic and also posted a first round win at the ITA Regional over Washington's Kolbovic/Hadzic 8-2.

Junior Orsolya Sallai is No. 27 in singles. Sallai has notched six wins this year in fall tournament play. The highlight coming in an ITA Regional win over Kathrin Winterhalter of Fresno State 1-6,6-2,1-0(6).

Arias is also ranked No. 30 in singles. In fall tournament play she recorded 10 wins, the last six coming consecutively.

'I am excited that we have three players in the regional rankings,' Washington State Head Coach Lisa Hart said. 'It is a good starting point for us and definitely something for us to build upon.'
