Ducks Down Marshall

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Luke Jackson had 21 points, seven assists and eight rebounds as Oregon defeated Marshall 90-61 Saturday in the Pape Jam. A.W. Hamilton scored 15 of his career-high 17 points in the first half to lead the Thundering Herd (2-3). Marvin Black added 10 points. James Davis had 16 points coming off the bench for the Ducks (3-0).

The Ducks overwhelmed Marshall, of Huntington, W. Va., in almost all facets of the game, shooting 53.1 percent to the Thundering Herd's 43.6 percent. Oregon committed 17 turnovers, but forced 25 and held Marshall leading scorer Ronny Dawn to 3 points.The Ducks shot 12-of-25 from 3-point range and made 10-of-12 free throws.Oregon led by as many as 15 points in the first half. James Davis hit a 3-pointer at 1:00 to make it 42-27.

The Ducks led 44-30 at the half. Marshall shot 50 percent in the first half, but cooled off in the second. Davis converted a lay-up on a fast break to give Oregon a 60-35 lead at 12:43.Eric Smith knocked down a 3-pointer for Marshall, but Brandon Lincoln hit a 3 of his own and the Ducks went off on another run. Jackson capped a fast break with a dunk to make it 75-43 at 7:40. Oregon switched up defenses often, keeping the Thundering Herd off-balance. The Ducks jumped out to a 28-16 lead, and held Marshall scoreless for long stretches of the first half.

Andre Joseph and Ian Crosswhite each had 14 points for the Ducks. Oregon freshman Mitch Platt left the game in the second half after suffering a high ankle sprain and did not return.
