Mellouli Shines At Texas Invitational

Sophomore All-American Ous Mellouli won two events, junior All-American Kaitlin Sandeno won once and the Trojans combined to win three relay races on the second day of the Texas Invitational at the Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center on Friday (Dec. 5) in Austin.
Mellouli touched first in the 400m IM (4:19.06) as well as the 200m free (1:51.21), posting a double victory in the long course finals. Senior co-captain and All-American Trent Staley was third (4:54.98) and sophomore Ryan Donaldson rounded out the finals in eighth (4:44.04).
USC swept both 800m free relays. The women's unit of Sandeno, Keller, sophomore Joy Galloway and junior All-American Margie Pedder won in 8:20.13 and was followed in second-place by teammates freshman Cait Connealy, Vazhenin, senior Jana Krohn and junior Melissa Greene (8:30.75).
Mellouli led off the men's winning 800m relay and was followed by freshman Larsen Jensen, sophomore Tyler Panos and freshman Gergely Meszaors. USC's B team of Staley, senior co-captain Matthew Peterson and sophomores Michael Kuaffman and Donaldson was third in 7:47.44.
The women's quartet of Sandeno, freshman Kristina Sieper, Krohn and Galloway led off the night with a win in the 200m medley relay in 1:59.73.
Other notable finishes included Staley's sixth place in the 100m back (57.93) and consolation victories by Sieper in the 100m breast (1:14.87), junior Marisa Kozak in the 100m back (1:04.85) and Jensen in the 200m free (1:52.75).
The meet concludes on Saturday (Dec. 6).
