Beavers Picked 11th In Preseason Gymnastics Coaches Poll
Dec. 8, 2003
The Oregon State gymnastics team was selected 11th in the 2004 preseason coaches poll.
The Beavers return 21 of 24 routines from last year's team that finished 17th in the final rankings after just missing out on a fourth consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships. In addition to those returning routines, the Beavers regain the services of senior Annie Campbell, an All-Pacific-10 all-arounder in 2002 who redshirted last season because of injury. The team also added two freshmen, Chelsea Plourde and Keegan Fitzgerald.
Based on the preseason rankings, Oregon State has a challenging schedule for the upcoming season. OSU faces seven of the top 10 teams and a total of 13 of the top 25 teams. All seven Pacific-10 teams were ranked, led by defending national champion UCLA. The Bruins were picked No. 1, with No. 6 Stanford, No. 9 Arizona State, No. 15 Washington, No. 17 Arizona and No. 21 California rounding out the Pac-10.
OSU opens the season January 9 at the Super Six Challenge at Alabama, where the Beavers will face No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Alabama, No. 7 Florida, No. 13 Oklahoma and No. 18 Denver. OSU will compete against No. 4 Utah and No. 24 Brigham Young later in the season.
