Griffin, Wells, Taylor Selected To NSCAA All-America Team

Dec. 13, 2003

Defender Leonard Griffin, goalkeeper Zach Wells and forward Matt Taylor were selected by the National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA) as All-Americans for the 2003 season, extending UCLA's streak of producing an NSCAA All-American to 21 years.

Griffin was named to the first team after leading the Bruin defense to 16 shutouts and a school record-tying 0.52 team goals against average. He was one of just two Bruins to start all 23 games, and he contributed four assists. Griffin this season was also selected to the NSCAA All-Far West Region first team and to the All-Pac-10 first team. Griffin is UCLA's 21st first-team All-American.

Wells and Taylor received second-team acclaim after posting career-best numbers. Wells, the Sports Illustrated on Campus National Player of the Year, set a new UCLA school record for goals against average with a 0.52 GAA. He had 11 shutouts, the fourth-best total in school history. Taylor, the Pac-10 Player of the Year, led UCLA in scoring for the second consecutive season, tallying 14 goals and eight assists for 36 points. Both players were first-team All-Pac-10 selections.
