Center Ben Devoe Will Transfer from Washington

Dec. 15, 2003

SEATTLE - Sophomore Ben Devoe is leaving the University of Washington after final exams conclude Dec. 18, men's basketball coach Lorenzo Romar announced Monday.

The 6-foot-11 center plans to transfer to another school in search of increased playing time. Devoe played one game this season for UW. He scored on his only shot attempt during a three-minute stint on Nov. 24 against UC Riverside. Devoe averaged 2.0 points and 1.0 rebounds.

A product of Olympia (Wash.) High School, Devoe originally joined the Huskies as a walk-on in January of 2002 and red-shirted the remainder of that season. He was awarded a scholarship prior to the 2002-03 campaign. Devoe played six games last year, scoring two points with four rebounds. His per-game averages for 2002-03 were 0.3 points and 0.7 rebounds.

Devoe has not declared his transfer destination.

'It was a pleasure to see Ben work really hard and make progress while he was here,' Romar said. 'He has made a decision that he feels is in the best interest for his basketball future and we support him 100 percent.'
