Huskies Win 18th-Straight At Home With 82-51 Victory Over Denver

Seattle - Led by four players in double-figure scoring, Washington women's basketball won its 18th-straight home game with an 82-51 victory over Denver at Bank of America Arena, Tuesday evening.
The Huskies (6-1) were led by 14 points from senior Andrea Lalum, ,while senior Gioconda Mendiola chipped in 13, freshman Breanne Watson had 12 and senior Giuliana Mendiola added 11 points. Redshirt-freshman Jill Bell had a career-high 16 rebounds, the most for a Husky this season.
Washington's 31-point win over Denver (3-3) was its largest winning margin of the season. It was also the Huskies' 18th-straight home win dating back to March 20, 2002.
Denver's leading scorer was Tasha Jones who had 11 points to go along with six rebounds. Laura Granzow was the squad's rebounding leader with seven, while Stephanie Hart also had six boards.
The score remained close through most of the first half, and with the teams tied at 23 with 5:14 left until the intermission, the Huskies rattled off a 17-0 run and went into the lockerroom with a 15-point lead, 42-27.
Washington never relinquished its advantage, with its smallest lead just a 14-point spread early in the second half. Three Pioneer players fouled out, including Catherine Anderson who played just four minutes of the game. Also fouling out were Hart and Venice Adams.
Gioconda Mendiola's 13 points were a career high for the Husky senior, who also had a season-high five boards. Watson's 12 points were a season-high and most for a freshman this year.
Washington returns to the court to host No. 4 Texas Tech, Friday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised live on Fox Sports Net Northwest with Jim Watson and Rhonda Smith calling the action from Bank of America Arena.
