Men's Basketball Edged By Hawaii In OT

HONOLULU (AP) - Michael Kuebler hit a 3-pointer with one second left inovertime to lead Hawaii to a 70-67 victory over Oregon State on Monday night.

Kuebler led all scorers with 24 points, including 11 in overtime, while PhilMartin added 21 points and six rebounds for the Rainbow Warriors (3-2).

Oregon State took a 67-63 lead on Lamar Hurd's two-handed dunk with 2:07left in overtime, but two free throws by Kuebler, a dunk by Martin and a costlyturnover by the Beavers' J.S. Nash with 31 seconds to play set up Kuebler'sgame winner.

Chris Stephens led the Beavers (4-3) with 18 points. David Lucas added 14points and 13 boards.

Hurd hit a 3-pointer from top of the key to give Oregon State a 57-55 leadwith 18 seconds left in regulation, but Martin scored on a short hook that tiedthe game at 57-57 and sent the game into overtime.

Kuebler, a 77 percent free-throw shooter, could have helped Hawaii inregulation but missed four free throws over the final 2:19 of the second half.

The Rainbow Warriors were playing in their first regular season game sincelosing to Dayton in the finals of the Maui Invitational on Nov. 26, a layoff of19 days.
