Diamond Dawgs Earn No. 23 Preseason Ranking

The Washington baseball team earned the No. 23 spot in Collegiate Baseball's preseason top-40 poll today, and three Huskies earned preseason All-America mention, the magazine announced today.

Washington, which opens its season at the University of San Diego on Feb. 13, 2004, picked up the No. 23 ranking after making NCAA Regional appearances each of the last two years. Last season, the Dawgs finished with a 42-18 overall record and went 15-9 to take third place in the Pac-10.

Rice, the defending College World Series champion, shared Collegiate Baseball's preseason No. 2 spot with perennial power Miami (Fla.). Other Pac-10 teams that made the rankings besides Washington were No. 6 Stanford, No.7 Arizona State, No. 16 USC and No. 22 Arizona.

Collegiate Baseball also released its preseason All-America teams and three Huskies were on the list. Junior right-handed pitcher Will Fenton (Kingston, Wash./North Kitsap HS) was named a second-team relief pitcher. Sophomore Brent Lillibridge (Everett, Wash./Jackson HS) was picked as a third-team shortstop and junior Aaron Hathaway (Vancouver, Wash./Columbia River HS) was named third-team catcher.
