Cougars Fall To Idaho 72-57

Dec. 20, 2003

MOSCOW, Idaho - Washington State's Bianca McCall scored 13 points and Lindsey Egeland added 12 in the Cougars' 72-57 loss to the Idaho Vandals in women's basketball action, Saturday.

The loss drops the Cougars to 4-4 while Idaho improved to 7-0.

Emily Faurholt, the nation's leading scorer, poured in a game-high 30 points while Taylor Benson (19 points) and Leilani Mitchell (15 points) also scored in double-digits for Idaho.

WSU was within 54-49 with 5:48 remaining but a 14-2 Idaho run over the next 4:23 gave the Vandals an insurmountable 68-51 advantage with 1:25 left. Faurholt accounted for seven points in that run while the Cougars missed nine of 10 field goal attempts.

The Cougars out-rebounded Idaho 49-40 but that advantage was diminished by an 18-of-57 (31.6 percent) shooting performance. Conversely, Idaho was 23-of-53 (43.4 percent) from the field including 5-of-10 from 3-point territory.

'We're thinking, we're not playing,' WSU Head Coach Sherri Murrell said. 'If you get some scoring, then you don't worry about the 30 from Faurholt.

'We lost some of our fire on defense,' Murrell added. 'That bothers me.'

The Cougars return to action, Monday, Dec. 22 for their final non-conference game of the season against San Diego State. WSU hosts the Aztecs at Friel Court for a 7 p.m. tip-off.

'I told the kids the best way to get over a loss is to win the next one so we're going to have to get after San Diego State,' Murrell said.
