Women Of Troy Suffer Another Heartbreaker Against No. 14 Colorado

Dec. 20, 2003

LOS ANGELES - Colorado center Tera Bjorklund scored 19 points Saturday to lead the 14th-ranked Buffaloes to a 69-67 non-conference women's basketball victory over USC at the Los Angeles Sports Arena on Saturday, Dec. 20.

Colorado (8-1) rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit and held the lead for the latter part of the second half. USC (3-4) had a chance to send the game into overtime, but Rometra Craig's fallaway shot from 10 feet bounced in and out. The game ended in similar fashion when USC lost, 72-69, on Dec. 7 at home against No. 1 Connecticut when the Women of Troy missed a three-point attempt at the buzzer.

Senior Ebony Hoffman and freshman Eshaya Murphy lead the Women of Troy with 13 points each. Murphy scored 10 of her 13 points in the first half, including two three-pointers.

The Buffaloes chipped away at the Women of Troy's lead in the second half. Emily Waner's three-pointer with 8:44 remaining gave Colorado the 53-51. Waner was 3-for-3 from three-point range and finished with 15 points and five rebounds.

With 1:41 left in the game, Colorado held a seven-point lead. Kate Fagan, who was 21-for-22 from the free throw line this season before the game, helped the Trojans when she missed two free throws. She went 5-for-8 from the line and her last miss gave the Women of Troy their final attempt with 12 seconds remaining.

The Women of Troy shot 50 per cent in the first half (16-for-32) from the floor, but were just 8-for-27 (29.6%) in the second half.

USC travels to Notre Dame for a non-conference game on Monday (Dec. 22) at 1 p.m. Eastern time.
