Healey: Coach, how did you kids make it through the final exam period and were you able to get some quality coaching time in with the kids?
Evans: Yes, we did. The kids had exams to take, but we had quality time with them. I think it really helped. They got through the exams okay. Some had test to take, some had tutors.
Healey: How did you feel the team played on its first road game of the year, when the team lost to Nebraska 66-60?
Evans: It was the first time on the road for many of these guys. I think they handled pretty good. Nebraska is a good basketball team. They beat Tennessee by 15-16 points. I am anxious to see how they respond on the road.
Healey: What have been the factors in the problem of offensive rebounding?
Evans: I think it is a little bit of youth. We are starting three new guys. We need our forwards to come along better. It is concentration. We have a small line-up and it is something we need to work on.
Healey: Is this the best shooting team you've had at Arizona State?
Evans: We've got some guys that can light it up. Certainly, Stevie Moore is a shooter and Kevin Kruger can light it up. We've got guys that can shoot. Hill, Allen, Smith are all pretty good shooters. When they get more comfortable with each other we'll be an even better shooting team.
Healey: I thought your club showed resiliency in that game against Temple.
Evans: We hung in there and we made plays. This kind of game will pay dividends on down the season. Moore and Diogu scored the last 15 points of the game. We had a lot of guys contributing in that game. Temple plays the toughest zone you are going to see.
Healey: You just mentioned three players: Kruger, Smith, and Morill who played a big role in the Temple game.
Evans: You are right and there are other guys we'd like to bring along like Keith Wooden, Chris LowKenny Crandall has been around he is just waiting for his chance when he gets in the game.
Healey: What particular aspects of your team have pleased you the most?
Evans: These guys do a good job of sharing the basketball. They really pass the ball well. They have a great understanding of what we are trying to do. They work extremely hard. I've never had a harder working team. We are a good shooting team. I think we will be a good rebounding team.
Healey: Are there any areas of great concern?
Evans: No, I don't have any areas of great concern. We need to get better in all areas. I think we are capable of doing good things. Sometimes you have a team that is as good as it is going to be. This team has a lot of talent.
