Evanston, Ill. - Matt Gentry, ranked first in the Pac-10 for his weight class, took third place by defeating Matt Lebe of West Virginia 4-0 in the consolation finals. In an even more impressive performance, Gentry gave Chris Bono, an Olympic team hopeful, a strong test before falling very narrowly 8-7 in the semifinals. Gentry's overall record for the tournament was 5-1.

True freshman Tanner Gardner (125 lb) was impressive on the mats as he reached the third round before running into #1 seed Luke Eustice of Iowa, who was ranked second in the nation.
