Wes Whisler Named Second-Team Preseason All-American

Jan. 2, 2004

Junior utility player Wes Whisler was named a second-team preseason All-American by Baseball America on Friday.

The Noblesville, Indiana native hit .310 last season with nine home runs and a team-high 70 hits. Whisler, who was an All Pac-10 First Team selection after the 2003 season, was also a team leader on the mound. He posted a 5.66 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 15 starts.

Baseball America honored Whisler as a first-team preseason selection last year and a third-team honor following his freshman season in 2002. The publication also placed Whisler on its All-Freshman Team. After an outstanding summer campaign playing for the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox of the Cape Cod League in 2002, Baseball America named the lefty to its Summer All-America Team. He was also its selection for the Cape Cod League's top prospect.
