EUGENE, Ore. - Senior Ebony Hoffman led with 25 points as the USC women's basketball team posted its second-consecutive victory with a 69-55 win over Oregon on Friday, Jan. 2, in Eugene.
With the win, the Women of Troy improve to 2-0 in the Pac-10 and reach .500 overall (5-5), while the Ducks fall to 8-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
In front of 3,772 at McArthur Court, Hoffman collected her fourth double-double of the season by also contributing 10 rebounds. Fellow senior Rometra Craig also enjoyed an outstanding night with 15 points thanks to a 63 percent shooting effort.
The Trojans raced to a 21-6 lead in the game's first nine minutes and never trailed. With Craig posting 10 of her 15 game points in the first half, the Women of Troy entered the break with a 36-25 advantage.
USC extended its lead to 25 points, 62-37, in the second half thanks to a three-pointer by Jessica Cheeks. With 8:50 remaining in the game, the Ducks embarked on a 14-2 run to cut the lead to 12 (64-52), but it was not enough to catch USC with only 4 minutes remaining. A lay-in and three-pointer by Craig sealed the deal as the Women of Troy grabbed a second-straight Pac-10 win to start the conference season.
Andrea Bills notched her ninth double-figure scoring game of the year for Oregon with 11 points, although she had just one point in the first half.
USC forced Oregon to a season-high 24 turnovers and out-rebounded the Ducks, 33-23. The Women of Troy also shot above 50 percent (50.8) for the first time this season.
The Women of Troy complete their road trip on Sunday, Jan. 4, against Oregon State in Corvallis. The game tips off at noon and will be televised on FOX Sports West2.
