Stanford's Powell Named Player of the Week

STANFORD SENIOR NICOLE POWELL NAMEDPAC-10 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF WEEK
WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- STANFORD senior forward/guard Nicole Powell has been named the Pac-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Jan. 5- 11, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Powell, from Phoenix, Ariz., averaged 22.0 points, and 10.5 rebounds in ta pair of weekend wins as Stanford defeated Arizona State (Jan. 8), and Arizona (Jan. 10). In two games, she shot 48.1 percent from the floor (13-of-27), 53.8 percent from beyond the arc (7-of-13), and was a perfect 11-for-11 from the free-throw line.
In the 60-46 home win over the Sun Devils on Jan. 8, Powell notched 29 points and nine rebounds, both team highs on the night. In the 84-62 defeat of the Wildcats on Jan. 10, she tallied her 37th career double-double and sixth of the season, with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists in 32 minutes of play. Arizona was previously undefeated in the Conference before losing to the Cardinal.
Stanford is currently riding a six-game winning steak and is the only team still undefeated in the Pac-10. The Cardinal travels to rival California for a Friday night matchup in Berekeley at 7:00.
The Player of the Week honor is Powell's seventh and the 29th all-time selection for Stanford.
