Baseball Cracks Top 10 In Preseason ESPN/Sports Weekly Coaches Poll

Jan. 13, 2004

TEMPE, Ariz. ( -- The Arizona State University Baseball team received its second top 10 preseason ranking for 2004 when the Sports Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll was announced today with the Sun Devils checking in at No. 10.

With opening day a little over three weeks away, the Sun Devils will open the season ranked in all four of the major college baseball polls (No. 7 by Collegiate Baseball, No. 10 by ESPN/Sports Weekly, No. 11 by NCBWA, and No. 18 by Baseball America). The Devils also debuted in the coaches poll last year at No. 10 and finished the year at No. 9. ASU opens the 2004 season Feb. 6-8 against perennial national power Florida State at Packard Stadium.

ASU is coming off another successful season in 2003 in which they finished with a 54-14 record and fell one game short of a trip to Omaha and the College World Series. A grueling 56-game regular-season schedule features 25 games against teams that are ranked in at least one of the preseason polls.

ASU will host the annual alumni game this Saturday (Jan. 17) at 1 p.m. at Packard Stadium. Admission for all fans will be free of charge and season ticket information will be available at the front gates.
