TUCSON, Ariz.- The Arizona baseball will open the season ranked in all three major collegiate polls after Tuesday's release of the Sports Weekly/ESPN Coaches Preseason Poll. The Wildcats, who are preseason No. 22 in the Collegiate Baseball and No. 16 in the Baseball America poll, have been tabbed 19th in the most recently released rankings.

Defending national title-holder Rice was named the No. 1 team in the Coaches Poll, making it the unanimous preseason favorite to repeat as College World Series champions. The Owls are ranked No. 1 in the Baseball America Poll and share the top honor with Miami in the Collegiate Baseball rankings.

Arizona, which finds itself ranked in the top 25 in the preseason in all three polls for the first time since 2000, will face seven teams ranked in the Coaches Poll over the course of the 2004 season. Among the non-conference opponents slated to face UA are No. 5 Cal State Fullerton, No. 9 Long Beach State, No. 11 Baylor and No. 17 Notre Dame.

The Wildcats are one of four Pac-10 teams in the preseason rankings. Joining them are No. 4 Stanford, No. 10 Arizona State and No. 22 USC.

Arizona, which opened its spring practices last Saturday, are set to open the season on Friday, February 6 against UC Riverside at Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium at 3 pm.
