Trojans Ranked No. 21 In ITA Preseason Poll

LOS ANGELES - With four players earning preseason rankings, the USC men's tennis team was picked No. 21 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) in its preseason rankings released on Jan. 13.
At the top of the preseason rankings for 2004 is Illinois, followed by Baylor, Florida and Vanderbilt are tied for third and Stanford is ranked fifth. Illinois, the defending national champion, received 19 first-place votes, while Baylor received 13. Rounding out the top 10 is Mississippi, UCLA, Duke, Texas A&M and Kentucky.
USC is the fourth Pac-10 team listed among the top 25 with California ranked at No. 12.
The Trojans begin the dual match season on Saturday, Jan. 24, against Cal Poly and Fresno State at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., respectively. All home matches will be played at Marks Tennis Stadium.
Singles and doubles rankings were also released on Tuesday. Junior Johan Berg is ranked 35th in singles, senior Ruben Torres is 51st, sophomore transfer Drew Hoskins is ranked 59th and senior Scott Patterson is No. 99. Only players who competed during the fall were eligible for preseason rankings. USC did not have any doubles team ranked.
