Arizona Women's Tennis Competes in Day One of Pac-10 Indoor Championships

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Arizona women's tennis team competed in the first day of singles and doubles competition at the Pac-10 Indoor Championships at the Nordstrom Center on the University of Washington campus.
Competing for the Wildcats in the first round of top-flight singles, junior Dianne Hollands defeated California's Catherine Lynch, 6-1, 6-2. Hollands will compete against Oregon's Daria Panova in the quarterfinals. Also in top-flight singles, junior Maja Mlakar fell in the first round to California's Raquel Kops-Jones, 6-1, 6-0.
In the second flight of first round singles action, freshman Jessie Rochefort was defeated by Saskia Nauenberg of Washington, 6-3, 6-4. Senior Debbie Larocque also fell in first round action to California's Nicole Havlicek in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
In third-flight singles play, junior Kelly Perry defeated Washington's Monika Kolbovic, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2. Perry advances to the quarterfinals of the third flight bracket, where she will face Oregon's Jody Scheldt.
The Wildcat women's tennis team will continue play into Friday night, and will continue Saturday morning, when doubles action begins and all flights of singles continue quarterfinal and semifinal competition. In the top flight of doubles play, Arizona's No. 19 duo of Mlakar and Hollands will compete in the quarterfinals, as they have received a bye for the first round. In the second flight of doubles action, Perry and Rochefort will pair up to compete for the Wildcats.
