Stanford Continues Play At Sherwood Cup

WESTLAKE, Calif. - The Stanford University men's tennis team was in action Saturday at the Sherwood Cup in Westlake, CA. Four Stanford doubles teams took the court, while five singles players competed in the consolation bracket.

In doubles action, sophomores KC Corkery and James Pade, the No. 10 doubles team in the country, defeated Jason Nguyen and Chris Surapol of UCLA, 8-4, while junior Phil Sheng and freshman Chris Rasmussen defeated Philip Gruendler and Aaron Yovan of UCLA, 8-6. Senior Joe Kao and freshman James Wan fell to Alberto Francis and Kris Kwinta of UCLA, 8-5, while senior Carter Morris and junior Sam Warburg were defeated by Parker Collins and Daniel Langre of USC, 9-8.

In the second round, Corkery and Pade were forced to retire versus Drew Hoskins and Johan Berg of USC in a walk over injury.

In consolation singles action, Pade defeated Balazs Veress of Cal, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, while Warburg eased by Jake Leivent of Cal, 6-1, 6-1. Wan was victorious versus Tyler Browne of Cal, 6-2, 7-6. Kao fell to Wayne Wong of Cal, 6-2, 7-5, while Rasmussen was also defeated by Brian Wright of USC, 6-3, 6-3.
