Ducks Slip Past Cal, 68-56

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Luke Jackson scored 17 points and Ian Crosswhite had 16as Oregon held off California 68-56 on Thursday.

Jackson scored six of his points in the final three minutes, after theGolden Bears had trimmed a 23-point deficit to six.

The win was the Oregon's eighth straight at McArthur Court and its 36th inthe last 38 games.

James Davis added 13 points for the Ducks (10-5, 5-3 Pacific-10).

California (8-9, 4-4) was led by freshman forward Marquise Kately, whose 17points were one short of a season-high. Fellow freshman Leon Powe had 12points.

The Ducks led 46-23 a few minutes into the second half. But Cal followedwith a 16-3 run to close within to 10 with 13:08 to play.

Oregon rebuilt its lead to 58-43, but the Bears responded again, this timewith a 10-1 run to close the gap to 59-53 with under three minutes to play.

Jackson stopped the rally, however, with a layup and the Ducks made 7-of-8free throws to seal the win.

Oregon went up for good early in the first half, when Jay Anderson scored onconsecutive possessions and Jackson finished a fast break with a dunk to cap a6-0 run for an 11-6 advantage at the 13:34 mark.

Three-pointers by Brandon Lincoln, Davis and Anderson built the Ducks' leadto 32-17, and Jackson made it 37-17 after making 3-of-4 free throws shortlybefore halftime.

Oregon's 37-20 advantage at the break was its largest halftime lead of theseason.
