ASU VS. UW: The Arizona State Sun Devils, 20-12 in 2002-2003, play at the Washington Huskies at 5 p.m. PST on Jan. 31, 2004, to close the first half of the Pac-10 season. Seven first-year Sun Devils are currently in the rotation, as injured freshman guard Tron Smith (broken nose and pneumonia) returned to game action for the first time since Dec. 22 against Washington State Thursday. ASU has a junior college transfer (Stevie Moore), a sophomore newcomer (Allen Morill), two redshirt freshman (Serge Angounou and Kevin Kruger) and three true freshman (Tron Smith, Keith Wooden and Wilfried Fameni) all playing significant minutes. Thursday marked the first time Smith and Angounou were on the floor at the same time, as Angounou missed the first 10 games recovering from a knee injury that kept him out all of last year. The Jan. 8 game against Stanford was his first game action since the Nov. 13, 2002, exhibition game when he injured it. ASU lost six seniors and 477 career games from its NCAA Tournament team last year. The Sun Devils fell to Washington State 63-56 on Thursday, as the Cougars outscored the Sun Devils 40-30 in the second half and forced 24 Sun Devil turnovers.

VS. WAZZU: ASU had 24 turnovers, its most in 68 games (it had 25 vs. Canisius on Dec. 29, 2001), in falling to Washington State 63-56 on Thursday. The Sun Devils had season-lows in points (56), field goals made and attempted (16-of-36) and second-half points (30) and tied a season-low with five assists in the loss. ASU was up 26-23 at the half but was just 7-of-17 (.412) from the floor in the second stanza. Ike Diogu led ASU with 13 points while Jason Braxton added 10 points and a career-high six steals.

U-DUB SERIES: ASU leads the series 33-20 and has three straight, six of the past eight and eight of the past 11 against the Huskies. ASU won 89-57 in Tempe last year and won a 79-77 overtime game in Seattle. Jamal Hill averaged 14 points in the two games against the Huskies last year while Ike Diogu averaged 12.5 and was 11-of-13 (.846) from the field. Rob Evans is 7-3 against Washington and Seattle is the only Pac-10 site where the Sun Devils have a winning road mark (13-12) in its 26th season of Pac-10 play. ASU has outrebounded the Huskies by 15.3 boards per game in the past six games and outrebounded them by 13 per game (42.5-to-29.5) last year.

DIOGU DATA: Here are the updated notes and numbers on preseason All-American Ike Diogu, the 2002-2003 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year...averaging 22.6 points per game and 8.9 rebounds per contest...has scored in double digits in all 49 games of his career, the best active streak in the nation...on the year, he has four 30-point games, 11 20-point games, five double-doubles and 37 his career, he has 23 20-point games, 12 double-doubles and nine other games with nine rebounds...currently has 991 career points...averaging 22 points and nine rebounds in past four games...has been fouled while making a shot 45 times in his career and has made 32-of-45 (.711) of the free throws that followed...averaging 22.3 points and 9.2 boards in past six games.

BRAXTON'S NUMBERS: In his past five games, junior point guard Jason Braxton is averaging 12.0 points, 5.2 assists and is shooting 23-of-39 (.590) from the floor. He has played in all 78 games of career (starting in 62), and is averaging 31 minutes per game this season after averaging 21.5 in his first two seasons.

NEEDING MOORE: Junior college transfer Stevie Moore has made a big impact in his first year. Moore is averaging 14.6 points and already has made 38 three-pointers, the most by a Sun Devil since Eddie House made 73 in 1999-2000. He has made 38-of-43 (.884) free throws in his past 11 games and has three 20-point games on the year. His 26 points vs. Arkansas-Little Rock on Nov. 26 is the best debut by a Sun Devil since Isaac Burton had 28 against BYU on Nov. 27, 1993.

AT THE FREE THROW LINE: ASU has posted a better free throw percentage than its opponent in all but three games this year. Its 72.8 percent mark from the charity stripe is currently the sixth-best mark in school history. Its top two scorers (Ike Diogu and Stevie Moore) are shooting 227-of-274 (.828) from the free throw stripe.

SUN DEVIL DATA: ASU is 5-2 when it leads at the half...ASU is 16-0 in the past two seasons when it shoots 50 percent...senior Kenny Crandall has made 92 career three-pointers...Ike Diogu already has 68 career blocks, tenth-best in school history...ASU has been trailing at the half in six of eight Pac-10 games this year.

IKE'S FREE THROWS: Ike Diogu already has made 163 free throws this year, just 17 away from the school record he set last year of 180. In his career, he has made 343, just 19 short of Royce Youree's school record of 362 made set from 1955-58.

LOW MARKS AGAINST WASHINGTON STATE: ASU committed 24 turnovers at Washington State on Thursday and was just 16-of-36 (.444) from the field. The 16 field goals made is the fewest since ASU made just 13-of-52 (.250) against Utah on Nov. 23, 1998, in the Maui Invitational, a span of the past 166 games. The 36 field goal attempts is the fewest in the Rob Evans' era at ASU (169 games).


#0 Allen Morill: A six-game starter who had season-high nine points vs. Oregon State on Jan. 24...played season-high 24 minutes and had eight points vs. Washington State on Jan. 29...24-of-34 (.706) from the free throw line on the year...eight points and eight boards vs. Temple on Dec. 9.

#2 Keith Wooden: Had seven points at Washington State on Jan. 29...posted 12 points and seven boards vs. Oregon State on Jan. 24 and 13 points in 25 minutes at USC on Jan. 17...six-game of four freshman to start a game this year for Arizona State.

#12 Kenny Crandall: A 76.8 percent free throw shooter in his career (53-of-69)...91 career games.

#14 Kevin Kruger: Is 16-of-20 (.800) from the free throw line on the year...29 minutes vs. California on Jan. 10...25 assists and nine turnovers on the year.

#22 Jamal Hill: Averaging 30.8 minutes the past four games...has made 15-of-16 (.938) free throws in the past 15 games...double-digit scorer in seen games this year...20 points at USC on Jan. 17 and 17 points vs. OSU on Jan. 24.
