Stanford And Windermere Real Estate Announce Teams For Second Annual Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford University and Windermere Real Estate in California today announced the line-up of teams for the second annual Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic, an invitational rowing regatta held at Redwood Shores, in Redwood City, California. This two-day community event will take place on Saturday, March 27 and Sunday, March 28, and will feature crew races between men and women from 15 of the nation's top schools as well as local high school and community club teams.

Following the success of last year's inaugural event, which featured races between eleven leading collegiate teams, Stanford and Windermere are preparing for an even larger event this spring, securing four more participating teams and a number of exhibition events. In addition to Stanford University, men's and women's teams will compete from University of California, Yale University, University of Pennsylvania, University of North Carolina, California State University Sacramento, Cornell University, University of Virginia, Michigan State University, Washington State University, Harvard University, Princeton University, Georgetown University, Arizona State University, and the United States Naval Academy.

'The Windermere Collegiate Crew Classic has become one of the most anticipated rowing events of the season and we're proud to play host to some the best teams from across the country,' said Craig Amerkhanian, Stanford director of rowing and head men's coach. 'For athletes, it's a chance to kick off the season with a spectacular roster of competing teams - and for the community, it's a rare occasion to experience the rich history and excitement of this sport.'

This celebrated rowing regatta will feature many of the nation's leading collegiate crew teams in Henley-style lightweight women's, open women's and men's events. More than 50 individual races will take place between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Saturday and from 9:00 a.m. to noon on Sunday. All race events are free and open to the public, who are invited to view racing from the shoreline and surrounding areas.

'Windermere is honored to sponsor an event supporting the inspirational sport of crew while providing a free, two-day event for our Bay Area communities,' said Mark Ewing, president of Windermere Real Estate in California. 'The commitment, dedication, and teamwork demonstrated by these athletes closely mirrors Windermere's unique approach to business and community involvement - building relationships that support our clients, agents, and the neighborhoods we serve.'

Windermere's heritage of supporting collegiate crew racing began 18 years ago when the company sponsored the first annual Windermere Cup regatta in Seattle. Held in partnership with the University of Washington, the Windermere Cup has become one of the largest community events in Seattle, welcoming national and international crew teams for exciting competition while commencing the official opening day of boating season for the waters of the Puget Sound.
