LAS VEGAS-The defending Big 12 champion University of Colorado soccer team kicked off its spring schedule with a 3-0 win over UNLV here Sunday afternoon.

Senior-to-be and co-captain Jen Thais opened the scoring in the eventual shutout in the first half while Shannon Kellogg, who played her first game since the 2002 season after redshirting ?03 due to an anterior cruciate ligament injury suffered this time last year, netted a pair of goals in the second stanza.

"We played two systems, a 4-4-2 in the first half and a 4-3-3 in the second with Shannon as a target player with a very specific role.  We maintained our pace and controlled the second half," said Bill Hempen.

The Buffs' spring schedule continues Saturday when they host Northern Colorado at 10:00 a.m. at Prentup Field on CU's East Campus.  Colorado upended the Bears 4-0 in an '03 exhibition contest in Boulder.

"We still have a lot to clean up.  We still have three more weekends to play."
