USC National Champion Football, Women's Volleyball Teams To Visit White House On March 23
March 5, 2004
The 2003 USC national championship football and women's volleyball teams will be honored by President George W. Bush on March 23 at the White House in Washington, D.C.
The ceremony will be part of the White House's 2003 NCAA Fall Sports Champions Day. Also included in the celebration will be the 2003 national championship teams from LSU football, Indiana men's soccer and North Carolina women's soccer.
The USC men's water polo team, which won the 2003 NCAA title, will be honored by Bush later this year when he visits California. The White House annually invites only the national championship football, women's volleyball and men's and women's soccer teams to its NCAA Fall Sports Champions Day.
The Trojan football and women's volleyball teams will tour the White House before Bush meets with each team individually to pose for photos. At 3:35 p.m EST, he will introduce each team to the media, White House officials and local representatives. A player from each team will present Bush with a gift.
USC's football team went 12-1 in 2003, captured its second consecutive Pac-10 title, beat Michigan in the Rose Bowl and won the AP national championship (its first national crown since 1978).
The Women of Troy volleyball squad won its second consecutive NCAA title in 2003, posting a perfect 35-0 record.
