OSU Trounces Fullerton, 7-1

FULLERTON, Calif. - -

No. 25 Oregon State used a four-run fifth inning to blow open a close game and cruise to a 7-1 win over Worth Tournament host Cal State-Fullerton on Saturday evening in non-league softball action.

OSU (19-6) has won six in a row and is 4-0 at the tournament; the Beavers take on Cal State-Northridge Sunday at 11 a.m.

Brianne McGowan capped OSU's scoring in the fifth with a two-run single off the centerfield fence that scored Kelly Petersen and Vanessa Iapala to make it 5-1.

'Brianne came up with some big hits today in both games,' OSU coach Kirk Walker said of the freshman who also hit the game-winning homer against Oklahoma State. 'We hit extremely well throughout the lineup and came up with some clutch hitting. We also played very solid defense today. Overall, we want to take it into tomorrow and get one more win and finish 5-0 on the weekend.'

Ingrid Lochelt knocked a two-run double in the sixth that scored Mia Longfellow and Kelly Petersen for the final of 7-1.

Ta'Tyana McElroy earned the win and moved her record to 5-1 on the year.

Longfellow scored three runs on the evening, and Petersen went 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored.
