Baseball Wins Series Over Sac State With 11-6 Victory On Sunday

TUCSON, Ariz.- The Arizona offense exploded for 11 runs on 15 hits and sophomore Kevin Guyette returned to form on the mound as the No. 16-ranked Wildcats won the rubber game of their three-game series with Sacramento State, 11-6, on Sunday.
The win handed Arizona its fourth series victory in five tries this year and improved it to 9-6-1 for the season. Sac State fell to 11-11 with the loss.
Guyette (2-2), who struggled through three starts over a seven-day span last week and went 0-2 with a 12.46 ERA, rebounded to pick up his second win of the season on Sunday. The right-hander gave up just one run while scattering six hits over 6 2/3 innings.
After giving up a single to open the game, Guyette retired the next nine straight hitters before another Hornet reached base. He struck out just one, but did not give up back-to-back base hits until the seventh inning.
CSUS's James Wheeler was charged with the loss after giving up six runs on six hits in three innings of work.
Highlighted by a 4 for 4 day by senior Moises Duran, the Wildcat offense supported Guyette early by scoring four runs in the first two innings. Freshman Bill Rhinehart opened the scoring with a bases loaded two-run double in the bottom of the first
UA added four more in the fourth, one in the fifth and two in the sixth to take the series two games to one.
In addition to the four hits, Duran also scored twice and drove in a pair runs. Rhinehart added a two hits in three at bats, three RBI and a run scored as eight of the nine Wildcat starters finished with a least one hit in the game.
Arizona will head back to Texas next week for three games at the Express College Classic in Round Rock. The Wildcats will take on TCU on Thursday, No. 11 Notre Dame on Friday and Penn State on Saturday.
