Chelsea Plourde Named Pac-10 Co-Gymnast Of The Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - OSU freshman Chelsea Plourde and Arizona State sophomore Ashley Kelly have been named Pacific-10 co-Gymnasts of the Week for March 1-8, Pac-10 Commisioner Tam Hansen announced Tuesday.
Plourde helped the Beavers set a school record of 197.675 as OSU went 24-for-24 to win the six-team Salbasgeon Suites Invitational last week. She won her fifth all-around title of the year with a personal best 39.650, breaking her own OSU freshman record and tying for the second-best all-around score in school history. She won vault with a career-high 9.975 and had a career-high 9.925 on bars to place second. She was third on floor with a 9.90 and had a 9.85 on beam.
Plourde ranks 17th nationally as an all-arounder and is the highest ranked freshman in the country. She leads OSU with 14 individual titles this season. In addition to her five all-around titles, she has four wins on vault, three on beam and one apiece on bars and floor.
Kelly had a 39.800 to help ASU defeat Eastern Michigan. She had a 10.0 on beam to go along with a 9.95 on vault and a 9.925 on bars and floor.
The Gymnast of the Week award is the first for both gymnasts this season.
