Men's Golf Junior Varsity Finishes Ninth at Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf junior varsity shot a final round 299 (+11) Tuesday and finished in ninth place at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate in Las Cruces, N.M.
All five Arizona golfers were over par in the final round as the Wildcats fell one place on the leader board after Tuesday's final round. The Wildcat JV finished the 54-hole event with an 887 (+23) total, 46 strokes behind Wichita State. Lamar (853), New Mexico (856) and Mississippi (870) rounded out the top four places in the 14-team field.
Leading the way for the Wildcats was sophomore Blaine Peffley, who finished in a tie for 12th place with a three-round total of 216 (E). The Lebanon, Pa., native posted best tournament total of the season and earned his second top-20 finish in four stroke play events this season. It was his best collegiate finish in 12 career stroke play starts. Peffley was the only Wildcat to finish at par or better.
Bolstered by a season-low 71 in the second round, freshman Ben Marsh posted a six-over 222 total to tie for 33rd place. For Marsh, it was the best finish in three appearances this season. Junior Nick Juszczak tied for 37th place with an eight-over 224 total.
The Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate was contested at University Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M., a par 72, 7,017-yard layout.
The Arizona varsity will next be in action, March 12-14, at the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas, Nev.
