The top-seeded Stanford Cardinal defeated second-seeded Arizona 51-46 to capture its second straight State Farm Pac-10 Tournament title Mar. 8 at HP Pavilion at San Jose, Calif.... The Cardinal and Wildcats shared the 2004 regular-season Pac-10 Championship, but Stanford secured the league's automatic NCAA Tournament berth with the tournament title in San Jose... Although snubbed again in this week's AP and Coaches' top-25 national polls, the Wildcats are considered a lock for their second straight NCAA Tournament with a 24-8 overall record and six wins in their last seven games... The rest of the Conference must await its fate, revealed Sunday, Mar. 14... The NCAA Selection Show airs live at 2 p.m. PT/3 p.m. MT on ESPN... Three Pac-10 teams - Stanford, Washington and Arizona - were among the field of 64 last season, while two teams accepted invites to the Women's NIT (Arizona State and Oregon State)... Stanford's Nicole Powell was named Most Outstanding Player of the Pac-10 Tournament for the third consecutive year, averaging 19.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 5.7 assists in the Cardinal's three tournament wins... Powell was joined on the All-Tournament Team by UCLA SO G Nikki Blue (16.0 ppg/5.5 apg in Pac-10 Tournament), SR G Aimee Grzyb, ARIZ (15.0 ppg/11-20 3FG); SR G Giuliana Mendiola, WASH (26.5 ppg/10.0 rpg/5.5 apg), SO C Shawntinice Polk, ARIZ (16.3 ppg/11.7 rpg) and SR G Kelley Suminski, STAN (11.3 ppg/8-16 3FG)... Arizona State will serve as one of the 16 on-campus sites for the first and second rounds of the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship on Sat., Mar. 20 and Mon., Mar. 22 at Wells Fargo Arena... The University of Washington will host the 2004 NCAA Women's West Regional, Mar. 27 and 29, at Bank of America Arena.
