March 13, 2004
TUCSON, Ariz. - Only one Arizona golfer shot better than par Saturday as the Wildcats shot a two-over-par 290 at the Southern Highlands Collegiate.
Arizona's second-round 290 gave the team a 36-hole total of 574 (-2), which placed the team sixth in the field of 15. The Wildcat tally was six strokes higher than its first-round effort that had the team in the tournament's top five places after yesterday's round. Arizona State's 555 (-21) total leads the field by three shots. Florida (558), Georgia (570) and Clemson (571) round out the top four places.
Chris Nallen was the lone Wildcat to break par, as the senior carded a five-under 67 Saturday. Nallen's two-round total of 138 (-6) placed him in a tie for seventh after 36 holes. Nallen moved up 11 spots on the leader board on Saturday.
Freshman Henry Liaw, who held the first round lead, faltered a bit on Saturday, carding a four-over 76 en route to a two-round total of 141 (-3). The Rowland Heights, Calif., native is tied for 16th place heading into tomorrow's final round.
Also competing for the Wildcats was junior Nathan Lashley. Lashley finished with an eight-over 80 and is tied for 64th place at 153 (+9).
The Southern Highlands Collegiate concludes Sunday at Southern Highlands Golf Course in Las Vegas, Nev., a par 72, 7,440-yard layout.
