NEW ORLEANS - Matt Barket's RBI double in the sixth broke an 8-8 tie Wednesday as the No. 14 Tulane Green Wave defeated the USC Trojans, 12-9, in nonconference action at Turchin Stadium. The Green Wave earned the two-game series split and tied a USC opponent record by hitting eight doubles (Stanford hit eight doubles on March 2, 1997).
Barket and third baseman Joe Holland had four hits each for the Green Wave, which improved to 13-6 on the season. Tulane scored five runs in the first off USC starter Matt Cassel, who lasted only a third of an inning.
The Green Wave held a five-run lead before USC (8-11) chipped away at the lead. Third baseman Michael Moon tied the game in the top of the sixth with a two-run homer to right, his second homer in as many games.
In the bottom of the sixth with Holland at second and two outs, Barket hit a double to center to score Holland for the go-ahead run. Wes Swackhamer followed with a double to right, plating Barket and first baseman Greg Dini scored Swackhamer with a single to left.
Brian Bogusevic (2-2) earned the win despite allowing eight runs on 12 hits in six innings of work for the Green Wave.
In the two-game midweek series, both teams combined for 42 runs and 63 hits.
