No. 4 Cal Tied for 7th After First Round of Longhorn Invite

AUSTIN, Texas - No. 4 California is tied for seventh with No. 16 Oklahoma and Purdue with a 321 Sunday in the opening round of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational at the Hills Country Club. No. 19 Texas is first at 309.
No. 33 UNLV is second at 313, and No. 9 Vanderbilt is third at 316. Rounding out the top five is No. 11 USC at 318, and No. 33 TCU and SMU are tied for fifth at 320. Cal is the highest ranked team at the 18-team tournament, hosted by the Longhorns.
Scores were higher than usual for most of the teams. Vanderbilit's Chris Brady was the only golfer to shoot par and holds the early lead with a 72. Two strokes back is Arizona's Cassandra Kirkland and Texas' Janice Olivencia at 74.
Cal sophomore Sofie Andersson leads the Bears in a tie for 10th at 77. Seniors Sarah Huarte and Claire Dury are tied for 31st at 81, while senior Anna Temple and sophomore Sophia Sheridan are tied for 39th at 82.
The second round tees off Monday at 6 a.m. PT.
