COUGARS TRAVEL TO MEETS AT BERKELEY AND STANFORD: Washington State University men's and women's track and field teams travel to the San Francisco area for meets this week and weekend...Darion Powell, Brandon Brownell and David Turpin will compete at the UC Multi-Events decathlon, Wed. and Thurs., March 24-25, at Berkeley...selected team members will compete at the Stanford Invitational Meet, Fri. and Sat., March 26-27, at Cobb Track and Angell Field on the Stanford University campus...this meet encompasses more than 1,000 participants in all age-ranges and ability levels...this year's collegiate competition will take place Friday night and in a compact format Saturday.

ABOUT THE COUGAR COACHES: Head coach Rick Sloan is in his 31st season with the Cougar track program; tenth year as a head coach, ninth year as mentor to the combined men's and women's program...he is joined by associate coach Debra Farwell, and assistant coaches Mark Macdonald, Kris Grimes, Jason Drake and Ellannee Richardson...volunteer coaches are Dan O'Brien, Michael Friedberg, and Andrea Thornton.

COUGAR HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK: Four women and Tim Gehring won events at the Trojan Invitational March 20 at Los Angeles...Monique Jessie won the 400m hurdles (1:01.57), Tamara Diles won the pole vault (3.81m/12-6 inches)...Marie Muai was the top collegiate thrower in the discus (47.50m/155-10)...Robin Mikesh finished in a four-way tie for first in the high jump (1.75m/5-8 3/4)...Tim Gehring won the shot put (18.36m/60-3)...Gehring also threw an NCAA mark in the hammer (60.58m/198-9) for third place...the men's 4x100m relay (Martin Boston, Matt Mason, James McSwain and Lamarr Kirk) finished second (40.11).

MISSING IN ACTION: Heptathletes Diana Pickler (sophomore, Sachse, Texas) and her twin sister Julie Pickler (redshirt freshman) will not be competing in the UC Multi-Events this weekend but have targeted the Mt. SAC heptathlon as their first multi competition of the outdoor season...Diana sprained her right ankle prior to the NCAA Indoor Championships...Julie is fighting plantar fasciatis...both will compete at Stanford this weekend...Tyson Byers (sophomore, Spokane, Wash.) missed the indoor season and is struggling in the outdoor season with a strained hamstring...Pat Harrigan (redshirt sophomore, Reno, Nev.) is having his ankle re-evaluated and will miss this week's meet...Nicole McClendon (freshman, Granada Hills, Calif.) has a sore lower right leg and is recuperating by resting.
