March 23, 2004

AUSTIN, Texas - -

Oregon State fired its lowest round of the week on Tuesday at Texas' Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, posting a 336, but the women's golf team remained in 18th place. The Beavers finished with a score of 1,020, 13 shots back of Kansas State and Northwestern.

Alex Lucio led the Beavers with a 246 and a tie for 45th; she finished with an 85 Tuesday.

Freshman Lindsay Eide's final-round 78 was OSU's lowest score of the tournament, propelling her up the leaderboard into a tie for 55th.

OSU's Leah Whiting tied for 79th, and Anna Rosvall and Laura Skinner tied for 87th.

'Our course management hurt us this week,' OSU coach Rise Lakowske said. 'I saw us making some of the same mistakes we made the last two days, and we didn't make the adjustments. This type of course demands better course management, and we need to improve on that.'

Out of 96 golfers and 283 individual rounds, only runner-up Sophia Sheridan of California broke par over at The Hills Country Club (par 72), firing a 71 Tuesday. Vanderbilt's Chris Brady was the only other player to touch par, opening with a 72 and closing with two rounds of 77 to claim a two-shot win at 226.

Vanderbilt moved up from a second-round tie for third to overtake second-place Texas and claim a two-shot win at 935. Vanderbilt's 15-over-par 303 Tuesday was the best score of the tournament.

The Beavers play next Apr. 2-4 at the Arizona State/PING Invitational.
