Brian Horwitz Named Pac-10 Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, CA - California senior right fielder Brian Horwitz has been named Pacific-10 Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the week of March 16-22, Pac-10 Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

Horwitz, from Encino, Calif., went 7-for-14 (.500), with two home runs and seven RBI in the Bears' 2-1 series win over No. 5 Arizona State this past weekend in Tempe, Ariz. In Cal's 20-8 win over the Sun Devils on Mar. 20, Horwitz went 4-of-5 with four runs scored and four RBI. In the Bears' only loss to ASU, 8-4 on Mar. 21, Horwitz went 2-for-4, with a solo home run in the fifth inning and a solo home run in the ninth inning.

The Pac-10 Player of the Week honor is the first for Horwitz and the 37th selection all-time for California. It was the first conference player of the week or pitcher of the week honor for the Bears this season.
