California's Horwitz and Oregon State's Baldwin Named Player and Pitcher of the Week

CALIFORNIA'S BRIAN HORWITZ NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK
OREGON STATE'S ANDY BALDWIN NAMED PITCHER OF THE WEEK
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -CALIFORNIA senior rightfielder Brian Horwitz and sophomore right-handed pitcher Andy Baldwin, have been named Pac-10 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week for the week of March 16-22, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Horwitz, from Encino, Calif., went 7-for-14 (.500), with two home runs and seven RBI in the Bears' 2-1 series win over No. 5 Arizona State this weekend. In Cal's 20-8 win on Mar. 20, Horwitz went 4-of-5 with four runs scored and four RBI. In the Bears only loss to ASU, 8-4 on Mar. 21, Horwitz went 2-for-4, both home runs coming in the fifth and ninth inning.
Baldwin, from Hood River, Ore., pitched 6.0 scoreless innings en route to a 7-0 Beaver win over Utah Valley State on Mar. 20. He struck out four batters while scattering a total of nine hits. With the performance, Baldwin now has an ERA of 2.67.
The Player of the Week honor is the first for Horwitz and the 37th selection all-time for California. The Pitcher of the Week honor is also the first-ever for Baldwin and the 53rd selection all-time for Oregon State.
