March 24, 2004

BERKELEY - Senior center Amit Tamir and senior guard A.J. Diggs have both been voted to the Pac-10 All-Academic team, the conference office announced Wednesday.

Tamir, who was selected to the first team for the second consecutive year, has a 3.34 GPA as an American studies major. Earlier this year, Tamir was on the only Pac-10 player chosen for the five-player CoSIDA Academic All-District team that represents nine Western states.

Tamir finished his career with the Bears earlier this month ranked 27th all-time at the school with 1,055 points. He also was sixth in three-point field goals made (136) and fourth in career free throw percentage (.811). Tamir averaged 12.6 ppg and 5.3 rpg this past season, ranking second on the squad in both categories.

Diggs, with a 3.03 GPA in sociology, earned second team status for the first time. A former walk-on, he averaged 2.0 ppg and 2.0 rpg in 2003-04, while also leading the Bears in steals (38) for the third straight season. Diggs' career total of 158 steals rates third in Cal history, behind only Jason Kidd (204) and Butch Hays (166).
