Men's Golf Finishes 15th In Tempe

TEMPE, Ariz.- - The Oregon State men's golf team closed out the final round of the Thunderbird Invitational at ASU's Karsten Golf Course Saturday with a three-round total of 4-over 868, placing them in 15th overall.
Junior Brad Simpson, coming off a second-place finish at the Duck Invitational, finished with a 4-under 212, earning him a tie for 20th.
Senior Sean Deacon used a final-round even-par 72 to finish tied for 28th with a 213.
Host Arizona State successfully defended its team title by posting a tournament record 43-under 821 to beat out second-place Arizona by 11 strokes. The previous record of 824 had also been held by the Sun Devils, which they set last year.
2003 NCAA Champion Alejandro Canizares of Arizona State held onto his second-round lead after firing a 3-under 69 in the final round, giving him individual medalist honors. His 16-under 200 tied the tournament record.
Sophomore Brian Kelley fired a 1-over 73 in his final round to finish tied for 68th with a 223.
Next up for the Beavers is the U.S. Intercollegiate in Stanford, California, April 17-18. This will be the final tournament before the Pac-10 Championships.
